How to collect Accessories

Collecting and displaying accessories is part of the design process.  It is also part of the life process.  We travel, we shop, we stop, we admire, we discover and we buy.

Knowing what you like, and having a list of where you need it,  can go a long way to avoiding the too much stuff syndrome. Whether it is in your Le Chic Cocoon or any room.

Connecting to your desires gives you the opportunity for variety, and to create history of the treasures you collect.

I woul love to hear what you collect and why.

Joy and a conga line

Whenever I see my friend Rebecca joy bubbles up within me.  I want to go sit next to her and feel the lightness around her failing on me like soft rain.
Do you have a friend like that?  Who makes your heart lift in laughter?

“On with the dance! Let joy be unconfined”
Lord Byron quotes

I am reminded about the time she formed a conga line, leading the way, swaying her hips, pulling people into the moment.

Conga line in the French Country side - celebrating life means movement.

Every time I think of her, I picture her leading a line of dancers, singing laughing, playing at life.  Embracing jubilance with a full heart and open arms.  Ready to delight and receive..

Makes me realize that joy is just like any other feeling, sorrow or fear.  We can hold it at arms length, or welcome it willingly, sinking into it..

Where are you in the receiving line?

Life is what it is.  People say we create our own world.  So when we open our arms and dance, joy flows in.  At least that is what I believe.     I have seen my life shift from a place where I lived in sorrow and doubt.  My Character Code™ type is an Artist.  I felt isolated, lonely,  misunderstood.

Till I started opening up myself to joy.  To dancing in the conga line.  I realized that I could stand against the wall forever, waiting to be invited to the party, or I could jump in.  Be a happy fool.  Sway to the beat, sing along out of tune, hum to what is good in life.

Movement is a terrific way to shift heavy the cells of sorrow.   Why not put it down and carry a bag of joy for a while?    Picture yourself actually putting down your heavy load and lifting a jug filled with light.  Pour the light all over you. Quaff a cup of laughter and feel a belly laugh float up to meet your funny bone.  Call a friend who makes you giggle, or head out for a walk.

What do you think?  Are our moods up to us?  Have you ever started of a day feeling really bad and ended of laughing?  Share your solutions for getting unfunked.  What gets you dancing in a conga line?

Design your escape in a Window Seat

Design your own personal retreat in plain sight.

Are you longing for a place to escape to but cant find a spare room under the pile of other people’ s  stuff?

A window seat is a wonderful escape from the mess in the room, or the noise in your life.  Giving yourself permission to sit down in the arms of fabric or wall and window is so peaceful.  A secret hideaway, your own Le Chic Cocoon.

If you have a window seat, be sure the cushion or seat is comfortable to rest on.  Have one made with a fabric that inspires you and matches the drapes and rest of the room, or find something that appeals.  Add a few pillows, and a side table or bring out a tray that will hold your items.

Even if you dont have a real window seat – that is a built in seat on a window, you can create the illusion of one.

Pick a sunny window or one with a gorgeous view,  that is removed from the central seating arrangement or flow of traffic.   Place your favorite chair, or chaise longue  facing the window or alongside it.  Remember to put out a footstool or something to put your feet up and an warm inviting throw.

A little table, with room for your books, pen or pencils & carafe,

Perhaps a sweet lamp to light your book, that warmly glows behind you and take a rest.

Put your feet up.    While away a sunny 30 minutes, taking a journey within.

Invitation to New York City

You are invited to a multiple day event in New York City

What would you say it this landed in your inbox one morning?

(Excuse me I need to do the Happy Dance)

New York City Moves

from the Brizo brand    I am falling in love with Brizo.  A fashion forward company.
“The essence of a Greek goddess who appeared in the dreams of mariners is reborn in the household fashion label Brizo” shopped from their website.

Greek Goddess?  I believe we are related.

Household Fashion ? Did I just land in heaven?   Brizo rocks.  They collaborate with Jason Wu connecting clothing to faucets.

They believe  that they are a fashion brand that designs faucets.   I believe that all design is intertwined, that household objects or the clothes we wear are all about lines, editing & details.

My goddess Coco Chanel says: Fashion is Architecture, tt’s all about proportions.

Trevi Lever from Brizo

Did you say sneak peaks?  Share feedback with the Brizo design team?  How did you know what curls my Goddess toes?

Good food, stimulating conversation, collaboration & cocktails.   There is a group of us.  I am excited to meet everyone. I have connected with a couple on twitter  @ErikaatBluLabel @EMIIntDesign @InteriorIcon@TheDecorGirl @gaubuchondesign  @nikimcneill   is our Twitter connection #BrizoFW if you want to follow along.

Invite Me to the party!!! Oh I think you just did.    Basics for great design. Function grows beautiful.

I discover that Brizo & Jason Wu see themselves as” two young fashion brands sharing the same aesthetics”.

I see that they bring the future closer,  by engaging function and form for the ordinary woman.

Why should we settle for okay when we can have outstanding?  Why should we wear clothes that make us look dumpy or use faucets every day that lack style?

Jason Wu Resort Wear 2012

Plus we get to witness fashion designer Jason Wu  show off his Fall 2012 collection at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week.   Swag and Swoon!

A private cocktail  with Jason Wu himself. Cocktail party?   How fast can I type yes?  Le Grande Finale!

I wonder what cocktails they will be serving? I better take notes.  Or bring in my recording watch. So I can speak, sip and shmooze.

Travel and accommodations for the event are courtesy of Brizo.  Happy, Happy dance!
